The St. Louis Sheriff's Department settles with the federal government over race and age discrimination.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says its reached an agreement with the sheriffs department after concluding that former sheriff Alfred Montgomery terminated older white employees, which they say was age and race discrimination. They say he fired a black employee who spoke out against it. All were terminated without assessment of job performance or experience level. The Sheriffs office didn't admit wrong-doing but will enter a 5 year pre-litigation conciliation process. Under the Trump administration the EEOC has shifted toward examining discrimination against majority groups.
