Congresswoman Cori Bush has joined the ranks of progressive legislators who are calling for the impeachment of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
In a statement Tuesday, Bush wrote that Thomas "made a mockery of his ethical obligations and disgraced himself and the entire judiciary."
Bush's statement cited recent reports from ProPublica that came out showing Thomas failed to disclose gifts, travel and real estate from a prominent billionaire. The ProPublica expose found that Thomas had been embarking on vacations that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars with his friend and Republican "megadonor," Harlan Crow.
The report says, "The extent and frequency of Crow's apparent gifts to Thomas have no known precedent in the modern history of the U.S. Supreme Court."
More of Bush's statement reads:
"Recent reports indicate that Justice Thomas may have violated federal law by willfully failing to disclose gifts, travel, and real estate transactions involving a wealthy benefactor, and by disclosing hundreds of thousands of dollars in income from a firm that has not existed since 2006."
"It is clear that Justice Thomas holds a complete disregard for law and ethics that is incompatible with the trust and confidence placed in federal judges."
Bush joins fellow "Squad" members like Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar in calling for the justice's impeachment.
