ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The husband of former Missouri Congresswoman Cori Bush files a motion to dismiss wire fraud charges against him.
Court records show Courtney Merritts is claiming he was the victim of politically motivated "selective prosecution."
Merritts was indicted back in March of wire fraud and submitting fraudulent applications for the Paycheck Protection Program or (P-P-P), during the pandemic.
Prosecutors allege Merritts received nearly 21-thousand dollars in Covid relief funds. Merritts maintains he was targeted because of who is wife is. The feds claim Merritts lied about the size and revenue from his business.
Merritts pleaded not guilty to the charges. The case is set for trial in January. Last week, Cori Bush announced that she is running to reclaim her First District Congressional seat currently held by Wesley Bell. Bush lost to Bell in 2024.
