ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - Following multiple consumer complaints and now federal scrutiny, a COVID testing company announces it's temporarily closing locations. The Center for Covid Control, which has multiple locations in the St. Louis area, released a statement on it's website late Thursday:

"Certain Center for Covid Control (CCC) locations are experiencing high demand for testing due to the Omicron variant surge. This unusually high patient demand has stressed staffing resources, as has been widely reported, in a subset of our locations, affecting our usual customer service standards and diagnostic goals.
CCC acknowledges this operational strain on customer access and delivery of results/status in some locations and remains determined to provide accurate, trusted testing for our thousands of customers. To this end, and to ensure the highest customer service and diagnostic quality, the company is announcing today it will temporarily pause further collection of patient specimens effective Friday, January 14, 2022, with plans to reopen Saturday, January 22, 2022."
The Center for Covid Control was operating five testing locations in the St. Louis region including one at Ballpark Village. As KMOX News reported, the BBB has given the company the worst possible rating, following multiple complaints.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services says the Center is approved to operate remote testing sites through its lab based in Wisconsin.
A CMS spokesperson tells KMOX, "CMS has received multiple complaints from different state agencies regarding the Center for COVID Control and its related temporary testing sites. We have no further information about any other complaints received or investigated. Until a survey has been completed and the laboratory has the opportunity to respond to any findings, there are no reports to release. We cannot comment on the nature of complaints received to safeguard the anonymity of complainants."
