We've heard a lot about how school closures, job loss, and other aspects of the pandemic have put stress and strain on households.

But that hasn't resulted in a spike in divorce in the state.

Figures from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services show more marriages dissolved in 2017 and 2018 before the pandemic.  Divorce dipped to the lowest rate in five years in 2020, although that could be, in part, because many court houses were closed.

Nationally, the number of people looking to get divorced skyrocketed, according to a company that provides legal documents. A report from Legal Templates said it increased 34% from March through June of 2020, compared to the year before.

In June of 2021, the 12-month average of dissolution of marriage in Missouri was 2.9 for every 1,000 people. That compares to a rate of 3.2 per 1,000 people in June of 2018.

Between June of 2020 and June of 2021 there were more than 18,000 divorces/dissolution of marriage in Missouri.
