SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - Due to an increase in new Covid cases locally, doctors are urging residents to get up to date on their vaccines -- especially those who are eligible for a second booster.

"Given the case rates that we have in the community right now, if you are eligible for the second booster, I would recommend that you get your second booster now." BJC Healthcare VP Dr. Hillary Babcock is a Wash U infectious diseases specialist. "If you've gotten your first booster and you are over the age of 50, or have underlying health conditions, or your immune system is compromised, then this is a great time to get your second booster, which will keep you protected while the case numbers are high in the community."
Don't wait, she says, until the fall when a new updated booster may become available. "If there is a new vaccine that's available in the fall that has additional strains of the virus in it, and it's recommended for people who have been boosted recently then you can still get it," points out Babcock. "There's no downside to getting another booster, 4, 5 or 6 months later if that's what's needed and there's a new one available."
