A drought on the Canadian prairies may be bad news for Midwest duck hunters.
Mike Weefer of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources tells KMOX the droughts have caused a decline in the duck population, which means that fewer young ducks are coming, leaving the more experienced birds to migrate.
"They're going to be smarter and hunters may need to pay attention to being a little tighter in their calling, and setting up their spreads, or really brushing in their blinds," Weefer said.
He said that since the ducks will be more experienced, hunters will have a chance to really test their skills and hone their techniques.
He added that there will be enough ducks, they just won't be as easy to find as they were in previous years.
