JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KMOX) - The phones were quiet at the Missouri Elections Integrity Unit.
KMOX asked Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft about complaints or concerns of irregularities. "We really haven't heard anything of that sort. We may have heard where an election authority had to ask someone to move a foot or two further away from the polling place so they weren't within the 25-foot range. But it's been a very smooth election."
A hotline set up by St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner received about 5 dozen calls about possible election issues. A spokesperson for Gardner's office says most were referred to other agencies depending on the situation.
Secretary of State Ashcroft says over the next two weeks, local election authorities will be conducting audits to certify results. "When they've done their certification processes... ...they will then send their official numbers to us. We will then go through a certification process so about a month from now we will have the official certified results of who won and lost."
Ashcroft says any challenge to those results must be filed within 10 days of the state certification. Those issues are handled in court.
Ashcroft says estimated voter turnout statewide was around 75-percent -- the best turnout in three decades.
