East St. Louis Pet Shelter asking public's help to find 2 men who burglarized shelter overnight

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - An East St. Louis, Illinois, Animal Shelter says it is asking for the public's life in identifying two men after they were burglarized overnight Thursday.

Gateway Pet Guardians, a nonprofit animal shelter in East St. Louis, Illinois and operating for over five years says two men entered the animal shelter and proceeded to steal items that included laptops, dog medications and even some leftover pizza in the refrigerator.

Luckily, the animal shelter says that no animals or people were hurt during the robbery.

“We have been operating in East St. Louis for 5 years and never had any issues like this. Our neighbors do such a great job looking out for us. If anyone recognizes either of these individuals, please let us know so we can hold them accountable,” said Jill Henke, director of Operations in a statement.

The shelter says it will need to replace the stolen items and hope to upgrade their security system and cameras. Donations to help can be made on the shelter's website or can be mailed or dropped off to the shelter, which is located at 725 North 15th Street.
