Since marijuana was legalized for recreational use in Missouri, entrepreneurs have been getting creative. One entrepreneur, Maureen Moore, tells KMOX's Debbie Monterrey about her companies Saddleback Chocolates and Kizmet Cannabis.
Moore started Saddleback Chocolates, a luxury chocolatier, then branched out into the growing CBD market. Once marijuana became legal, she started fusing the handmade luxury chocolates with edibles.
"Peanut butter cups, Double Stuf Oreos, graham crackers, caramels, you know, espresso bites, all of those are all hand poured. Then they're infused or drizzled with cannabis," Moore said. "And the nice thing is, ours are all, you know, like s'mores — literally a s'mores chocolate, but it has marijuana actually drizzled on it. So you get all the love of the chocolate, the taste, the feel. But then you're also getting the THC."
Aaron Golchert, director of business development for cannabis retailer Mana Supply Company, told KMOX that the stigma of weed has lessened now that it's legal, allowing for more creativity without having to worry about legality. He adds that Missouri has seen a large uptick in sales of edibles.
"I think you have two types of people. You got your traditional consumers that have been smoking flower their entire life, and they're gonna stick to flower, and they're gonna buy just flower to smoke in their bowl or roll a joint or something," he said. "But for most rec users that are 21 and up, they're trying to chill out in the evenings or whatever. They gravitate towards the edibles, and that's what we're seeing."
