Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson tells KMOX News there are two or three intersection crashes a month. "I think it would increase the safety level of the responding apparatus, be it a fire truck, or an ambulance, or one of the officers going to a scene."

Jenkerson adds, though, that a green light won't mean it's safe to go.  "Even with a green light, we tell our members, you still have to cover the brake because you don't know who's going to roll through a stop sign, who's going to roll through a red light, who's going to run through a red light."

Backers hope the estimated $12 million project could be paid for out of the city's federal COVID relief money.
