'Erratic' driver clipped snow plow in Jefferson County; Multiple accidents with MoDOT trucks

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There have been some traffic accidents in the greater St. Louis area on Thursday involving a MoDOT truck that flipped over and snow plow hit by a vehicle.

Officials in St. Louis County and St. Charles County are urging residents to stay home until residential roads can be cleared. But they say that might be awhile.

St. Louis County Transportation Department Spokesman Dave Wrone says they're focused on getting the major roads plowed, but they are "very shortly after" being recovered by snow.

St. Charles County Engineer John Lyons says his crews will also have to remain focused on the main roadways.

"A few side roads may get done if they're small enough," Lyons says. "Large subdivisions where we have to peel off for long periods of time probably won't be. We'll have to stay on the main roads to try to keep them open."

Meteorologist Dave Murray predicts a total of 8-10 inches of snowfall for the greater St. Louis area by Thursday evening.

In addition to trying to clear the roads, a couple of MoDOT vehicles have been involved in accidents and at least one case of road rage.

The accident happened at Highways 94 and 67 in St. Charles County. The MoDOT truck overturned but the driver was not hurt.

The other incident happened on I-55 near 141 in Jefferson County. Highway Patrol Corporal Dallas Thompson says an irate motorist tried to pass a plow.

"The driver of an SUV came up and was acting somewhat erratic from reports, waving his arms, and clipped the front corner of the snow plow. And it spun out," Thompson says.

The plow's driver called 9-1-1 after the SUV's driver drove off. The plow was able to remain in service.
