MASCOUTAH, Ill. (KMOX/AP) - An investigation is underway after pilots had to eject from their F-15 that was rolling off the runway at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport Tuesday morning. The two pilots were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash happened on the runway at about 7:30 a.m. and the jet was still stilling on the run hours after the incident.

After landing, it departed the runway, according to Air Force officials. The pilots, who are active U.S. Air Force pilots, then safely ejected.

The F-15QA involved in Tuesday’s incident “was slated to be transferred to the Qatari Air Force through the Foreign Military Sales program. The incident is currently under investigation,” the U.S. Air Force said in its statement.

Scott Air Force Base officials said in February that Boeing’s new F-15QA, which was designed for the Qatar Emiri Air Force, would operate out of MidAmerica.

It's possible the runway was slick due to rain throughout the night.

MidAmerica is located about 25 miles (40 kilometers) east of St. Louis.
