The Fairview Heights, Illinois Planning Commission will meet Tuesday night to discuss plans create an inpatient drug treatment facility. They'll also have a public hearing and expect some pushback -- not every resident is happy about the potential of an inpatient facility coming to town.
Dallas Alley, Fairview Heights Director of Land Use and Development, said part of the planning process involves considering testimony from surrounding property owners.
"As part of the process for a proposal for any type of facility like this, they do have to go through the hearing process, "Alley said. "That's why we're having the meeting tonight. It's the first of three meetings that will be held for this for this consideration."
Alley said the facility is being planned for the Fairview Heights area because there are none in the Metro East currently operating.
"The city actually did not solicit this company, that company came to the city," he said. "And it's my understanding that there's a couple of companies that are looking not just in Fairview Heights, but in the surrounding area, because they feel that there is a need here in the Metro East that's not being met."
The city has not stated a position on the situation yet, and is waiting to hear from its residents at the three upcoming town halls. KMOX will have more on residents' opinions after Tuesday's meeting.
