JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KMOX) - In November 2021, 25-year-old Kaitlyn Anderson, and 58-year-old James Brooks were killed while doing some re-striping on Telegraph Road at the Interstate 255 overpass. Their work truck was rammed by another vehicle. Anderson was six months pregnant, and her unborn child died as well.

Friday, her family will travel to Jefferson City, hoping state lawmakers will hear their call for change.

Tabatha Moore tells KMOX News she and other family members of Kaitlyn Anderson will hold a rally outside MoDOT headquarters in Jefferson City.

Moore says a bi-partisan Senate bill currently sitting in committee would allow compensation an estate if a person's killed on the job. "Just because Kaitlyn was unmarried and her baby was killed with her doesn't mean her life did not have value. But the way the law's written in Missouri that's exactly what it says. It says here's your $5000, bury you, we're done."

Moore says the bill also makes it easier to sue a company in Missouri if a failure to comply with safety standards leads to an injury or death,
