ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The story of two MoDOT workers killed after a vehicle rammed into the back of a work truck becomes even more somber, as it's been reported that one of workers was six month pregnant with her first child.

Kaitlyn Anderson, 25, and James Brooks, 58 died on Thursday afternoon while doing some re-striping on Telegraph Road at the Interstate 255 overpass. Police have not yet released a cause to how or why the driver of a Chevrolet Cavalier hit the vehicle. A third MoDOT worker was taken to the hospital in serious condition and the driver was also transported, but with undisclosed injuries, police says.
Anderson's family confirmed to Fox 2 that she was six months pregnant and already planned to name her unborn child Jaxx.
Brooks, a senior maintenance worker, was 58 and worked for the department almost nine years. Anderson, an intermediate maintenance worker, was 25 and worked for the department for two years.
“Our hearts are breaking and our sympathies go out to all the families of our employees. These are our friends and coworkers and their presence will be sorely missed by us,” said Tom Blair, MoDOT St. Louis District Engineer.
Missouri Gov. Mike Parson also released a statement about the "dedicated public servants who were taken far too soon."
The MoDOT worker in the hospital was in serious condition.
Authorities say the crew had flashing lights on and orange caution cones near their truck to warn drivers. Missouri law requires drivers to change lanes, if safe to do so, when approaching transportation department vehicles.
“We are still investigating what happened here,” said Cpl. Dallas Thompson of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. “But people need to move over and eliminate distractions to keep people out here just doing their jobs out of danger.”
