A suspected drunk driver hit a police car on I-70 in Maryland Heights last night. Five officers were injured, three of them seriously.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, five officers from Lake St. Louis and St. Charles County were on I-70 just west of 270 after a chase with a different vehicle when the suspected drunk driver struck them.
Corporal Dallas Thompson with Troop C says two lanes were clearly blocked ahead of the site of the crash. He added that all the patrol cars also had their lights on.
Police arrested a 31-year-old man from O'Fallon for driving while intoxicated. A two-year-old girl was in the man's SUV; she was not injured, but was taken to the hospital just in case.
The two St. Charles County officers were released from care, while the three from Lake St. Louis remain hospitalized.
