FLORISSANT, MO (KMOX) - Some Florissant residents who live by Cades Cove Drive and common grounds adjacent to Coldwater Creek, the Army Corps of Engineers is surveyed the area for more nuclear contamination.
The Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, or FUSRAP, Chief is Phil Moser. One question is how is it possible there are areas still not remediated.
Moser says now, they are going through the residual contamination along Coldwater Creek. KMOX wanted to know how it's possible, that decades after known dangerous nuclear waste has contaminated parts of North County, that the Corps of Engineers is still finding new areas with contamination.
Moser says now, they are looking for residual contamination along Cold Water Creek. Residents in Florissant are just finding this out. KMOX asked if these new areas will have hazardous waste, or keep out signs posted, Moser says no.
When asked when remediation would be completed, Moser says 2038. This remediation has been going on since 1997, when the site around Lambert Airport and parts of Hazelwood were designated Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, or FUSRAP.
