ST. LOUIS (KMOX)- A former Florissant police officer was indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday after he allegedly unlawfully searched the cell phones of 20 different women to find nude photos.
Julian Alcala, 29, was charged Wednesday with one count of destroying records in a federal investigation and 20 counts of deprivation of rights under color of law, namely the right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure.
According to the indictment, between Feb. 6 to May 18, 2024, Alcala took possession of 20 different women's cell phones under the auspices of confirming their insurance coverage or vehicle registration. When he took their phones, he allegedly searched the phones for nude pictures and then took photos of the pictures with his personal cell phone.
In one instance, the indictment alleges Alcala found a video on one of the victim’s phone and texted that video to his phone before attempting to delete evidence of the text.
Alcala is the second former law enforcement officer to be indicted on similar charges this week in the state of Missouri.
