Former St. Louis City Director of Personnel Sonya Jenkins-Gray has filed a lawsuit against the city, seeking to reclaim her former position.
According to the lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, Mayor Tishaura Jones, her Chief of Staff Jared Boyd and Deputy Chief of Staff Sarah Baker took illegal actions to remove Jenkins-Gray from office for political reasons.
The suit argues the Civil Service Commission, which after an extensive hearing process recommended to Mayor Jones that she terminate Jenkins-Gray, acted beyond its authority by operating as a two-member board following the resignation of one of its three commissioners.
The suit also alleges the city failed to provide proof Jenkins-Gray acted with malfeasance when she had an employee drive her in a city vehicle to Jefferson City for personal reasons.
A spokesperson for the city declined to comment, citing a long standing policy against commenting on litigation.
