Kim Gardner calls Bailey's removal efforts 'baseless,' says she'll run for reelection

On Tuesday night, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner held a roundtable where she addressed efforts to remove her from office, pushback from constituents and more. She took no questions from the press.

"I love this job, because I actually want to invest in people, not about buildings. I want to invest in people, and to address the root causes of the problem," Gardner said. "We can all talk about what the number one cause of crime is, and that's poverty, we know that. We can have more police than most major cities, and that's still not enough. We have done the things that we've seen in this community, but we know what it is. If you give people the equal opportunity to thrive, then they will be great."

Gardner addressed accusations from Attorney General Andrew Bailey and others that call her "incompetent." She compared her 20-year history in law enforcement and her election to be Circuit Attorney to Bailey's recent appointment to his position.

"I'm the only elected official in the criminal justice system," Gardner said. "The chief law enforcement officer in this jurisdiction and they want to take away your rights to have that person elected. That's telling you something, right?"

Gardner called Bailey's Quo Warranto "baseless" and "foolish" and said she'd fight to keep her job — and that she intends to run for reelection next year.
