Missouri Governor Mike Parson is threatening to call lawmakers into a special session next month if they don’t pass bills banning gender-affirming care for minors or ensuring that kids only play sports on the teams that correspond with the sex on their birth certificate.
Parson said Thursday that it’s a top priority, and that “we’re not going to walk away from this building” without passing the bills.
While both the House and the Senate have advanced transgender sports and health care bills, they haven’t been able to come together on how far the restrictions should go.
Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s rule banning health care for transgender kids and adults was put on a temporary hold late Wednesday night, and a judge will revisit it on May 1.
