What started as a small farmers market is expected to bring over 100-thousand people to the small town of Kimmswick.
"It really did just start out as a few of the local community [members] sitting out and selling some handcrafted stuff," said Kimmswick Mayor Kenneth Craft III. "And it's just grown to this in 29 to 30 years."
Mayor Kraft spoke with KMOX's Jade Aubrey yesterday about this weekend's Strawberry Festival, which runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
He said this year's festival will feature around 400 booths filled with food, produce, artisan goods like hats and furniture, and live music.
"Our vendors are from al over the United States. I have not done it so far this year but last year when I walked around and talked to them, we had people from 33 states," Mayor Kraft III said. "The farthest one we've actually had was from Quebec, Canada."
For the town of Kimmswick, this weekend's Strawberry Festival is more then just fun.
Mayor Kraft III said the amount of visitors it brings in financially supports the small town.
"133 people is our residency. And we're getting ready to open the gates to about 100,000 [people]."
