The Green House Venture's highway embankment garden is bearing fruit. Or vegetables, to be more accurate. Planted this past spring by students of the three participating schools in the GHV program, the harvest over the weekend yielded enough produce to feed a number of families.
On site for the harvest was Ashley Snyder of Operation Food Search.
"It's great to have produce that is fresh, that's just been harvested this morning," said Snyder. "[It] will be able to go out to food pantries and shelters this afternoon."

The highway embankment garden on DeTonty and Lawrence (on the side of I-44 near Grand) is only a part of the Green House Venture's programming.
"It's an important thing because there's a lot of available land in cities across the country that's just being mowed right now," says Don Stump, Green House Venture co-founder and vice-president. "It could be used way more productively if it were turned over not just to pollinators but also to children and adults who want to grow."
MoDot gave permission for the land to be used for this purpose.
