CRESTWOOD (KMOX) -- Earth movers are leveling the dirt for the redevelopment of the old Crestwood Mall site at Watson and Sappington.
Greg Dierberg says the plan includes a new, state of the art Dierbergs store, along with other retail and new homes.
"I can remember my grandmother taking me shopping here when I was a little kid," Dierberg says, "and now to have the chance to redevelop this iconic site means a lot to a lot of people."
Crestwood alderman Mary Stadter says revenue lost from the mall closing forced property taxes higher for homeowners, but that could change.
"I'll probably get in trouble, but I'm leaving the aldermanic seat next Tuesday so I can say it -- the plan was, we were going to raise the (property) taxes when we had to and the hope is to bring that back down again," she says.
Another alderman there, Justin Charboneau, also says that's the goal.
The site will include the new Dierbergs grocery store, other retail shops, and an 81 home subdivision put up by McBride and Son homebuilders. Prices for the new homes, which are in Lindbergh School District, will range from $300,000 to $600,000.
"We have three different series, or types, of homes," McBride CEO John Eilermann says. "We're excited about it."
It should all be ready to go by this time next spring.
