A shot went off on a Metrolink car Friday night during a ride from the Cardinals game into Illinois during an altercation between two passengers.
Dale Becker, a Belleville resident, was on the train heading home when a man who had been "causing a scene" began bothering people on the train. He was then confronted by another man who had a gun.
"The guy took a pistol and smacked him 3 times with it, and on the third strike it went off and missed a ten-year-old girl's head by about 8 inches," Becker said.
Becker added that there were no security guards on the train car where the gun went off, or on the platform when they got off the train. Officials from the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department confirmed Becker's account with other eyewitnesses.
The victim was not cooperating with police but was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The gunman is still at large; police are working on getting suspect information.
