A St. Louis groom has been hospitalized after a masked gunman shot him in the head last week at his wedding reception, according to local authorities.
Police reported that two masked gunmen entered the backyard of the bride, Dulce Gonzalez, early on Saturday morning as guests were celebrating the couple’s wedding at their home, KSDK-TV reported.
Gonzalez’s sister, Yaribeth Peña, shared with KSDK that the two men were wearing ski masks and had ordered those present not to move.
Police shared that one of the gunmen stood behind Manuel Gonzalez, the 32-year-old groom, as the other went through the pockets of the guests.
Before fleeing the wedding, the report says one of the gunmen shot the groom in the head.
Police were quickly called, and first responders arrived at the scene. The groom was taken to a local hospital, where he is still listed in critical condition.
“He’s fighting for his life,” Peña said. “We are hoping he pulls through.”
Police are still searching for the suspects and have not made any arrests yet.
