ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Two KMOX political analysts gave their takes on the vice presidential debate that took place this week between J.D. Vance and Tim Walz.

John Hancock, a Republican strategist and former chair of the Missouri Republican Party and Michael Kelley, a longtime Democratic Strategist, joined KMOX's 'Total Information A.M.' right before their show 'Hancock and Kelley', which airs Fridays on KMOX at 8:30 a.m., to give their thoughts on the debate.

"What struck me the most about that debate was how civil it was," said Hancock. "When you look back at debates 10 years ago, almost all debates were like that. I thought it was kind of refreshing in a way how both candidates conducted them civilly."

"I don't think there was a clear winner in the debate, but I do think Vance overperformed expectations of him in that forum."

Kelley agreed with Hancock takeaway from the vice presidential debate, saying it was "refreshing to see two people properly."

"I think they advocated their position effectively," said Kelley. "Yeah of course (Republicans) are going to tie everything that happened during the Biden administration to Kamala Harris and why wouldn't they? It cuts both ways."

"There are many positive aspects Harris can point to and show and at the same time, there's no doubt people have concerns about the economy regardless of whether how positive the numbers are."

Ultimately, both Hancock and Kelley both reaffirmed their beliefs that the election will come down to voter turnout.

"I don't know who we are persuading anymore," said Kelley. "I would really like to meet a persuadable voter because I like to see if they have a pulse."
