KMOX is partnering with its listeners to raise funds for SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital through the Tree of Hope campaign. Over the last two years, we've raised $170,000 and hope to beat that mark this year.
Cardinal Glennon offers top-tier care to its patients — including things like music therapy. One music therapist, Carrie Lemon, told KMOX about the work she does.
"It's the best job in the world," she began.
Lemon works with teens in the dialysis outpatient unit and transitional care unit. They utilize live instruments, musical play, singing, songwriting, listening and more.
"Music therapy has been shown to decrease stress and anxiety in patients and caregivers, and also helps improve the mood of the kids while they're in the hospital and express their feelings," Lemon said. "And sometimes we find that they express feelings that they might not otherwise share through music through song or music making."
