Two officers were shot -- one killed -- in Hermann, Missouri late Sunday evening.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol issued a Blue Alert shortly after officers were shot at a Casey's on Market Street in Hermann. The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Kenneth Lee Simpson. After a nearly 12-hour standoff with police and a SWAT team, Simpson was taken into custody on Monday afternoon.
KMOX News has learned Gasconade County R-1 School District has cancelled classes Monday as a precaution.
Highway Patrol Toop F says the injured Hermann officers were transported to area hospitals. One officer, Detective Sergeant Mason Griffith, did not survive. The second officer is reported in serious but stable condition.
