ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis region has seen a slight decrease in hospitalizations and admissions connected to COVID-19 in the last few days, but it's not yet enough to change the indoor dining ban in St. Louis County.

County Executive Sam Page said Monday morning that he won't make a decision on that until he sees the falling numbers become a "trend."

"We really have to watch for a trend," Page says. "We'll know more by the end of the week."

Page is targeting mid-December for a re-evaluation of the indoor dining ban, which has been in effect for three weeks under the safer at home order.

Last week, St. Louis Joint Board of Health and Hospitals chairman Dr. Will Ross said the science doesn't support singling out indoor dining to stop the spread of COVID-19. But Page says a recent CDC report supports his decision to close dining rooms.

"On Friday the CDC reaffirmed and stated very clearly that indoor dining remains a high risk for transmission, especially in areas where the positivity rate is high," Page says.

The state of Missouri reported 11 new deaths Sunday to give Missouri 4,192 deaths total.

The number of people hospitalized with the virus across the state declined to 2,708 on Thursday, which is the most recent data available. That was down from the previous day’s 2,735, but it remains high. The record number of hospitalizations set on Nov. 18 was 2,851.
