ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis County Police say a Missouri Correctional inmate walked out of Mercy Hospital South on Kennerly Road around 4:30 am Thursday morning. Officials do not know if he is armed but say he should be considered dangerous.

Tommy Wayne Boyd, 45, was transported to Mercy Hospital South from the Potosi Correctional Facility Wednesday for medical treatment. Boyd is serving a 30-year sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections for statutory sodomy.

Surveillance video shows Boyd leaving the hospital on foot early Thursday morning, about a half hour after he was last seen by hospital personnel. Investigators don't know which direction he left the hospital.

Boyd is described as a white male, 5'7", 154 pounds with balding hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black jacket, and orange slippers.

St. Louis County Police say they urge residents to remain vigilant as officers search for Boyd. They recommend residents to make sure homes and garages are secure. Residents with kids should also make sure to watch children at bus stops.

St. Louis County Police Lt. Col. Jason Law says that parents of children at those schools should 'just go along your normal day' in response to Boyd's escape.

As a abundance of caution, schools within the vicinity are taking extra precautions. Mehlville School District officials placed Hagemann Elementary School, Trautwein Elementary School and Washington Middle School on lockdown Tuesday morning. They also canceled all elementary and middle school activities.

However, all high school practices, games and clubs will still be able to go on as scheduled.

Anyone seeing Boyd should immediately call 911.
