The midterm elections are just days away. What can the St. Louis metro region expect to see? Longtime St. Louis Post-Dispatch political reporter Jo Mannies joined KMOX in studio to share her thoughts.

Mannies said one of the races she’s watching is the St. Louis County Executive race.

“I think it is definitely a contest with Mantovani and St. Louis County. I think it's definitely a contest between him and incumbent Sam Page,” she said. “And Page has, especially among the African American community, the political leaders in St. Louis County, there's some division over him. So it's gonna be interesting to see how that translates into who shows up next Tuesday.”

Mannies also shared her perspective on the U.S. Senate race between Trudy Busch Valentine and Eric Schmitt. She said that while it looks like Schmitt has the lead, she’s interested to see if Busch Valentine’s focus on abortion will bring younger women out to the polls.

“If he has a blowout, that really means that the Democrats are really in weak shape in Missouri, but it really shows how much of a hill they have to climb, Or does she make it close enough that they can see a way forward?” Mannies said.

Mannies shared more perspective on the upcoming elections, and how the political landscape in the area has changed in her life and career as a political reporter. Listen to her full conversation:
