ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOX) - St. Charles County Councilman Joe Brazil is coming under fire for allegedly threatening that election officials would end up in jail.
KMOX News has reached out to Brazil and are waiting to hear back.
St. Charles County Elections Director Kurt Bahr accused Brazil of "slanderous accusations and abuse of power" after he sent several texts and called an election deputy, while ballots were being counted, saying he didn't like the outcome.
He also expressed concern election officials were still tabulating votes at 9 p.m., suggesting that would not happen if the ballots were counted by hand, something he would be pushing for. Brazil said, in that text message to the election deputy, which KMOX has seen, "interesting how all the conservatives lost, we will do a deep dive, you guys will end up in jail."
Bahr told Brazil to refrain from ever communicating with an employee of the election authority.
There is a St. Charles County Ordinance prohibiting elected officials from telling a county employee what to do.
Brazil eluded to the election being fixed after the slate of conservative school board candidates all lost.
Bahr is also calling for Brazil to apologize to the entire election office. He goes on to say. "Attempting to change the outcome of the election by threatening those who were actively tabulating the election results is a gross abuse of your power and unbecoming of an elected official in our county."
KMOX News has also obtained text messages between Brazil and Republican State Representative Richard West. West told Brazil "this crap of internal fighting is turning the people of St. Charles against the conservative movement."
