ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Alderwoman Cara Spencer soundly defeating Mayor Tishaura Jones. She told a crowd of supporters, crammed into Union Station, her campaign was built on a simple idea. "That St. Louis can do better" and get back to basics. "A better delivery of City services that are residents and businesses rely on. But this campaign/election was about so much more than potholes and trash. It was built on the idea that we can build a Downtown that we can all, the St. Louis region can be proud of."
Spencer says she wants to stem the tide of population loss, particularly in North St. Louis. The Mayor Elect says Saint Louis can be a place where everyone has the tools and support that we all need to survive and thrive.
Mayor Tishaura Jones said in her concession speech. "We had conversations with tens of thousand of St. Louisans and earned thousands of contributions with an average amount of less than $200.00." Jones says "all that without the single help of any billionaire."
Mayor Jones making a reference to the more than 100-thousand-dollar campaign contribution Clayco founder Bob Clark made to Spencer's campaign.
But in the end, it was not enough. St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones lost to Alderwoman Cara Spencer by a margin of 64 to 36-percent.
