Vice President Kamala Harris sounded notes of unity and strength for the Democratic party as she visited St. Louis Friday.

Harris spoke to the women's caucus of the Democratic National Committee. The committee is holding its fall meeting Thursday through Saturday at downtown's Marriott St. Louis Grand Hotel.

Harris told attendees that Democrats "are the ones who stand against hate. We are the ones who bring people together, unified. We are the ones who believe no one should be made to fight alone.

"We have competency on our side," she continued. "What we are doing is popular with the American people. We are going to win (in 2024), and I'm going to say this. We are going to win because we love our country."

Harris also discussed her current Fight for Our Freedoms College Tour. She's visiting colleges and universities across the country to mobilize young people in the fight for their rights, according to the White House.

Harris said students are concerned about several issues, including climate change.

"Climate anxiety: the fear that they have that they perhaps should not have children," she said. "The fear that they have maybe should never have an aspiration to own a home because it could be destroyed by extreme weather. They want to know that we're taking this matter seriously with a sense of urgency. "

On gun safety laws, Harris said, "If we need to check ourselves about whether this is relevant to the future and current young leadership of our country, this college tour tells me yes, yes, yes."

The last Vice President to visit St. Louis was Joe Biden in 2014. The next stops on her college tour include the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas and Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.
