Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas penned an op-ed piece in the Post-Dispatch, criticizing the turmoil surrounding the St. Louis Board of Police Commissioners.
Lucas told KMOX's Chris and Amy he feels state control of the city's police department really means no control.
"Every few weeks the governor has to give a quote about, hey, I hope they figure it all out. This is not a good look for Missouri government. It's very much not a good look for St. Louis. And I think ultimately it's not a good look for public safety in St. Louis long term."
Lucas says the system put in place by the legislature and Governor Mike Kehoe is set-up for conflict... and that's what has happened in the recent back-door pay raise for Police Chief Robert Tracy and the police board's legal counsel leaving.
Lucas suggests the governor re-think the makeup of the police board.
"I put in the piece that maybe he should put in an accountant, or a math teacher from elementary schools there who will know basic math, responsibility and right and wrong."
