ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There was a whole lot of red on airport signs inside St. LouisLambert International Airport from cancellations due to the winter storm.
According to FlightAware, St. Louis Lambert International Airport saw 160 canceled flights Monday with most of those flights coming from Southwest Airlines.
Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, Director of St. Louis Lambert International Airport tells KMOX it's been a slow go Monday
"We are open and flights have been coming and departing," said Hamm-Niebruegge on 'Total Information A.M.' "(Sunday) was a tough night with the additional accumulation that came in and the strong gust of wind."
Hamm-Nuebruegge says Sunday, Jan. 5 was supposed to be the biggest travel day returning from New Years at Lambert but instead, many travelers got ahead of the snow and re-booked early.
"We were originally booked at 21,000 outbound (Sunday), which puts us right about, if you include the connecting and inbound traffic, puts us in the range of 55,000 people through the airport," said Hamm-Nuebruegge.
"Obviously that many did not traverse (Sunday) through here, but a lot did book on flights on Friday and Saturday when there was availability."
Big piles of snow have been pushed around the parking lot and snow melters are out to clean things up.
Hamm-Niebruegge says the airport should be fully operational by tomorrow morning.
