ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - It's going to be a much more typical 4th of July celebration in St. Louis this year. Following Tuesday's announcement that America's Birthday Parade is returning to downtown St. Louis, a fireworks show at the Arch will also be back this 4th of July.

Fair Saint Louis announced Wednesday morning that the annual Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular will be back this 4th of July. And it will be the biggest show in the organization's 40-year history.

"Against the iconic backdrop of the mighty Mississippi River and the breathtaking Gateway Arch, the Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular will light up the sky on Sunday, July 4th at approximately 9:40 p.m. The show’s score will feature patriotic music and current hits," organizers announced.

City of St. Louis Mayor Tishaura O. Jones will do the honors in “pressing the button” to launch the Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular.

But it's not totally back to normal just yet. Fireworks will only happen on July 4 (July 3 is the rain date if necessary), instead of multiple nights as in past years. And organizers say the other Fair Saint Louis activities under the Arch – including concerts and food and drink vendors – will return in 2022.

The Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular will feature 3,000 shells launched from three barges on the Mississippi River.

If you can't make it to the Arch grounds, the fireworks will stream live online at KMOV.com and on the KMOV app.
