ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - In November, Missouri voters approved an increase in the state's minimum wage and changes to paid sick leave requirements.
Now a coalition of Missouri businesses is trying to block it.
Dan Shaul is Executive State Director of the Missouri Grocers Association. He's part of the suit that claims Prop A violated constitutional rules because it contained more than a single subject.
"We contend paid time off and hourly wages are two separate questions," said Shaul to KMOX News. "That would violate the (Missouri) constitution single-subject law."
Prop A not only raises the minimum wage, it guarantees paid sick leave for hundreds of thousands of workers.
"If you dig deeper into the initiative, it includes every employer, so if you have two employers, it applies there as well," said Shaul.
Shaul tells 'Total Information A.M.' he doesn't think everyone knew the extent this ballot initiative would have on the general public.
"We just want the Supreme Court to look at it and tell us whether it needs mustered or not," said Shaul.
The League of Women voters is saying pay and sick leave are all the same topic and fall under the umbrella of compensation in response to the lawsuit.
