A local pizza manufacturer is trying out a new approach to addressing staffing shortages: A three-day work week.
Lucia's Pizza is planning to implement a 36 hour week, according to its president Scott Ashby.
"It's three days, twelve hours," Ashby said. "They don't have to be consecutive, and all the employee has to do is fulfill those 36 hours and they get four free hours paid for."
He told KMOX that like many other businesses, Lucia's was struggling to find labor -- and raising pay wasn't working.
He said he hopes that having flexibility and four days off a week will appeal to employees who want more work-life balance.
"It's a win-win for us. And for them, they get a lot of time off," he said. "And we hopefully have workers to fill our production."
Lucia's is hiring 30 new people. Those interested in applying can go to luciaspizza.com.
