ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Rabbi Susan Talvi has a message for those who struggle to vocalize how horrific and unthinkable Hamas attack on Israel was especially for Jewish people who've been persecuted for centuries.

"Someone came up to me at this event and said, 'I have no words,' said Rabbi Talvi, "I said, 'unfortunately, we do have the words. We just didn't think we'd have to say them again and the words are Babi Yar.'"

Talvi says she can't help but think and remember of the tragedies that happened over time to the Jewish community.

"It was so reminiscent of what they did to the Nature Festival where we understand the Jeeps surrounded these young people who were there to listening to music, to celebrate peace. It was a peace festival, the possibility of peace. They surrounded them and they shot at them like fish in a barrel," said Talvi, "It was very reminiscent also of those stories that came out of the holocaust. The only people that survived to tell the story were the people that were buried under the bodies of their friends and their families and pretended that they were dead."

Talvi says it is extremely important for the Jewish community to share their history and let the world of the tragedies the community has historically faced.

We need to tell the world that, that our people have been raped. They've been slaughtered, murdered in cold blood," said Talvi, "Children in front of their mothers, who were then raped and then whole families killed. Children, burnt. I mean, who does that? Who does that?"

Talvi says that the Jewish Community has a lot of healing to do.

"For the sake of those who have died, we have to survive and take care of each other and hope that the world will stand with us this time before it's too late," said Talvi.
