In its first few games, St. Louis CITY SC has packed CITYPARK full of enthusiastic soccer fans. But people who attend games get more than just a thrilling sports experience — they get some of the best food St. Louis has to offer.
CITYPARK's menu boasts all local selections, and some of the vendors joined KMOX in studio. Chef Gerard Craft of the Niche restaurant group came in, alongside Samantha Mitchell from Farmtruk and Rachel Burns from Bold Spoon Creamery.
Craft told KMOX why he decided to get in on the CITYPARK food scene.
"Well, number one, I have an amazing team. And so Niche food group is made up of amazing people that, you know, we all teamed together to do these things," he said. "But number two, you know, I thought that the opening of this stadium was such an important piece of St. Louis and St. Louis history and how it connects the city."
Mitchell told KMOX that being able to serve food at CITYPARK "means everything" to her. "To look back at it and see the volume and the record sales and to see my guys hustle so hard — it's like my kids, you know? It's really special."
Burns added, "We are beyond excited to be at the stadium. And I think, of course, being local is a big deal but we're all small businesses, which is just as important."
"The ownership group really wanted to make a statement with this stadium and to do something different. This has never been done in sports," Craft said. "There's been a couple of partners here and there within a stadium. But this is 25 local restaurants — plus farmers — that are supplying food for the suites and, and butchers that are providing the sausages from G & W and Buttonwood farms. You know, they really wanted this to be kind of a legacy piece."
