Lovers say they'll go into debt to woo each other this Valentine's Day

ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - Big spenders are ready to show their love this Valentine's Day. A new survey by Lending Tree shows lovers plan to spend 44% more than they did last year.

Many couples say that includes a nice dinner out.

Here's how the spending on Valentine's Day breaks down:

- six-figure earners plan to lay down an average $413 for their sweetheart

- men, on average, anticipate spending $299

- and millennials value their affections at $294

Roughly a third of people surveyed say they're likely to charge those romantic gestures on their credit card, but about half of that group say they would hide the debt from their significant other.

About 3 in 10 Americans admit they have spent more than they can afford on past Valentine's Days to impress a love interest.
