ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Macy's says it plans to close 66 stores across the country as part of it's 'Bold New Chapter' strategy, and among the locations to close will include one in St. Louis.

The Macy's store located at the South County mall will be among the 66 locations that will be closed down.

In addition, the Macy's located at the Metro North mall in Kansas City, Missouri and the Macy's located at the White Oak mall in Springfield, Illinois will also be among to close.

"Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service," said Tony Spring, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s,

Macy's says the 'Bold New Chapter' strategy, which was announced in February 2024, aims to return the company to sustainable, profitable sales growth which includes closing approximately 150 underproductive stores over a three-year period while investing in its 350 go-forward Macy’s locations through fiscal 2026.

Macy's will still have four locations in the St. Louis region: a department store at the West County Center mall, the Galleria, and the Mid Rivers mall and a Market by Macy’s store in the Chesterfield Commons .
