ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Madison County, Illinois is emerging as one of the region's major economic drivers, with towns including Edwardsville, Alton, Wood River, Glen Carbon, and Granite City, among others.

The winner of the Republican primary for Board Chair, Treasurer Chris Slusser, is unopposed in November. He defeated controversial incumbent Kurt Prenzler. Slusser talked to KMOX's Michael Calhoun about priorities in government and how Madison County can contribute to a St. Louis regional turnaround.

"I think we have to send a message that this safe place to do business," said Slusser. "We have river, rail, interstate and all these things to be successful here and have a regional plan to make this happen."

Along the discussion, Slusser also talked multiple topics regarding Madison County, including Slusser's Economic Plans, how Edwardsville is booming, but becoming too expensive, especially when it comes to rent, for many business owners, how the county is working on landing a potentially large manufacturing project to go in Granite City, which faces a threat to its steel plant and more.
