St. Charles County Police Captain Dave Tiefenbrunn says Paul Hepperman was trying to free some clogs in the 30-foot-tall silo on his farm near Flint Hill when he fell into the grain. Tiefenbrunn says some passing hunters noticed Hepperman's tractor was still running and the trailer that the grain was fed into was overflowing.

They went to Hepperman's home to call for help.

There were firefighter from several departments including a Urban Search and Rescue Task Force on the scene just off Mexico Road. They dug feverishly and cut holes into the 30-foot bin and went in with shovels to get as much of the grain out as they could.

Rescue crews worked for nearly two hour before finally pulling his body out.

Tifenbrun says a lot of the rescue personnel knew and were friends with Hepperman.

"I spoke to a lot of community members and he's highly thought about in that community and it's going to be devastating for a small community like that," Tifenbrun says.
