Man dies in south St. Louis house fire

St. Louis Fire Department crews had two morning fire calls on Tuesday, one involving a man's death in the 400 block of Bates, the other at Queens and Thekla.

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The worst of two daytime fires Tuesday morning was in south St. Louis around 8:00 am in the 400 block of Bates.

"Just a heavy volume of fire upon arrival. We put it out very quickly. We did locate on deceased male on the first floor," St. Louis Fire Department Captain Garon Mosby told KMOX News.

The victim's name has not been released, but said to be a man in his 60's who lived alone. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The second fire happened mid-morning in north St. Louis, at Queens and Thekla.

Crews had reports of flames in the attic of a two-story brick building that's being renovated. Nobody was home.

The cause of that fire is also under investigation.
