Man shot, killed by deputies in Jefferson County; no deputies injured

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says it is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place overnight.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, at 9:30 p.m. Monday, deputies were dispatched to a home in the 8100 block of Old Highway 21, north of Hillsboro, for a report of a man banging on the home's door.

When deputies arrived, the man, who identity has not yet been revealed, pointed a handgun towards his head. Additional units were called for assistance, and some with crisis intervention training. It would lead to a three-hour standoff.

Shortly after midnight Tuesday, the man fired shots at deputies, who later returned fire. The man was struck and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

No deputies were injured from the incident.

Investigators recovered the handgun and also discovered multiple firearms that were in a car believed to be driven by the man while securing the scene.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says investigation is in its early stages and as a result of it, Old Highway 21 between Schenk Road exit and Tower Road will be closed for hours.
