SHREWSBURY, Mo. (KMOX) - A victim is in the hospital after being stabbed in the head during an attempted robbery in St. Louis County Monday morning.

The Shrewsbury Police Department responded to a panic alarm at a Phillips 66 gas station on Lansdowne Avenue around 5:50 a.m. and say an 18-year-old assaulted the victim while trying to rob the person and stabbed them in the head.

Police say the male victim had just walked out of the station's convenient mart when the suspect approached him and demanded money. There was a scuffle and when the victim tried to run, the suspect started lashing a knife at him and hitting him in the head.

Police arrested the suspect, a Shrewsbury resident, less than a mile away and located the weapon in the area after an extensive search.

The suspect may be charged with first-degree robbery, assault and armed criminal action.

The victim suffered a non-life-threatening injury.
